Pod Coffee Makers – the Pros and Cons of Single Serve Coffee

Jan 24th, 2010 by admin

Pod coffee makers are another type of coffee brewers that had burst onto the scene and become the latest must-have for coffee enthusiasts everywhere. This kind of brewer requires coffee pods or coffee packets instead of the traditional scoop of coffee grounds. The pods resemble tea bags in that the package is self contained and goes directly into the coffee maker. There is no measuring. Mainly, these machines use pressurized hot water to push through the pod. As long as the water is hot enough, merely pressing a button results in fresh coffee coming out the spout in a few minutes.
Just like any other appliance it would have its advantages and disadvantages. The obvious benefit is that it would be less fussy because there would be no need to deal with coffee grounds. Coffee beans need to be perfectly roasted and grinded before being carefully measured for a good cup from drip coffee makers. A lot of people would probably vouch for the convenience it brings. Because coffee packets have no need for filter paper, it is also easier to clean after use.
Although there are generic pods that can be bought, coffee pods and coffee packets would be quite limiting especially that each would be specifically designed for a single serve pod machine. A number of people also pointed out that most of the coffee pods are not very environmentally-friendly. However, the pod coffee makers can also be economical. Because these are meant for individual servings of coffee, nothing would go to waste. At the same time, all of the ingredients are already packed in a pod so there would be no need to buy other ingredients often needed to spice coffee up. For instance, instead of having to buy some cinnamon, a bottle of hazelnut syrup and tin of chocolate powder, all of those would already be contained in a pod.
Pod coffee makers are quite easy to use. Once the water is hot and ready, a person can choose their preferred size of the cup to start brewing. Some single serve packet or cup brewers would only have one serving size available. Brewers that have more serving sizes would give people more freedom on how intense the flavor of the cup of coffee. It would be ideal to have a look at the selection of hot beverages for a coffee pod brand before deciding to buy its respective coffee brewer. The taste and flavor of coffee would be highly dependent not only on the pod coffee maker but the coffee packets that can be used with it. It may also be good to look for other hot beverages that can be brewed so that non-coffee drinkers would also be able to enjoy it.
There are a wide variety of coffee companies that are now producing coffee pods for single serve brewers. Most popular are Keurig, Senseo, Timothy’s, and Melitta. Keurig coffee pods are actually known as K cups since they only work in Keurig machines. email encryption

Single Serve Coffee Makers – The Modern Household Coffee Maker

Jan 21st, 2010 by admin

Why buy a single serve coffee maker? The reasons are numerous but I will try and explain in this article to convince you. I have owned a Keurig single serve coffee maker for over a year now but prior to that I tried several different 10 cup makers trying to solve little annoying issues that we all experience. I have tried every top retail brand like Cuissanart, Krupp’s and Braun along with old-time makers like Mr Coffee. None of them kept my amusement for very long. I then tried a very expensive maker for coffee connoisseurs and spent over $300 for it and it ceased after a year and it still had the same problems like:  1. Coffee flavor changed after sitting in the pot 2. Did not hold temperature for long 3. Waste of coffee 4. Same flavor for every cup Comparing Single serve makers and standard Carafe models is a bit like compaing apples and oranges. Everything from taste to overall brewing experience is totally different. I have to say that when I first experienced putting the little cup in the coffee holder to pressing my first start button I was in love. It was so easy and frankly fun! I am still debating whether or not the one cup coffee kcups are more expensive because I seemed to waste so much using a carafe system so It is really hard to examine the reality of the claim that the coffee per cup is more expensive with a one cup system. If there was no waste using a standard maker then I would obviously agree but I never was any good at making a good cup of coffee using a 4 cup measurement. The value in a one cup system is as following:  1. Every cup is brewed at same temperature so you get a great cup consistently 2. You can have a different flavor each cup 3. Fast, have a hot fresh cup in less than 30 seconds 4. No pot or carafe to constantly dish wash 5. No filters to buy Those are some of the main reasons but honestly the coffee tastes great. I have also heard that you can’t get a strong cup of coffee out of the pods or the kcups but my experience has been that the coffee is really rich and dark. So many varieties remind me of a cup straight from Starbucks. This has been the best new invention and modernization I’ve seen in years. Definitely the best new gadget I have purchased in a long time. Get up to date and buy a Keurig maker or ask for one for Christmas. You’re going to love it! Differences in One-cup Coffee Makers

Jan 20th, 2010 by admin

For many years, coffee makers were just that. They would brew a pot of coffee, which was then poured into several different cups. However, in recent years, there have been advancements in coffee makers, and the most popular new type of coffee makers is one cup coffee makers. Not surprisingly, these coffee makers make one cup of coffee at a time. These machines are very popular because many people enjoy being able to make one cup of coffee at a time. There are several different types of one cup coffee makers out there on the market today.

One of the initial advances one-cup coffee makers offered were smaller coffee pots, which saved time and unused coffee grounds. These smaller coffee pots only hold enough water for one cup of coffee at a time. An individual would add a spoonful of coffee, and wait a few moments for the pot to percolate. This allows a person to make only one cup at a time.

However, there are many more advancements one-cup coffee makers have to offer than just smaller decanters. One of the biggest challenges was that it was often difficult to measure out the amount of coffee needed for one cup of coffee. Due to this difficulty, the pod type coffee makers were born. The pod coffee makers were a way for people to have one cup of coffee, and not have to worry about deciding how much coffee to put in their one cup coffee makers.

With a pod coffee maker, a person puts in enough water to have one cup of coffee. Then, instead of putting loose coffee into the coffee maker, a pod is put there instead. The pod is constructed out of coffee-filter material, with the pre-measured coffee inside of it. The pod is placed into the coffee pot; hot water is run through it, creating the perfect cup of coffee.

There are also one-cup coffee makers that make coffee directly into the mug. These coffee makers use portioned packets or pods to have just the right amount of coffee grounds. The mug is part of the coffee maker itself. Hot water is poured into the coffee maker, and the coffee is percolated directly into specially made mugs that attach to the coffee maker. These coffee pots are very easy to use and very convenient. However, if the coffee mug is lost or broken, the entire coffee pot cannot be used. Some of the brands have replacement coffee mugs that can be purchased.

There are many reasons that a person might want to use a one-cup coffee maker. With the pods and portioned packets, a person can choose one single type of coffee each day. A husband can have one type of coffee while a wife has another type of coffee. Also, a person can have only one cup of coffee at a time. Many people prefer this because they do not have to wait for an entire pot of coffee to brew. Usually, one cup coffee makers brew the coffee in a matter of minutes.

The revolution of one cup coffee makers has led to an influx in the coffee market in general. In the past, flavored coffees and specialty coffees were not sold as much because people did not want to make entire pots of different coffees.

However, with the advent of the one-cup coffee makers, specialty coffee brands are introducing new products all the time. Different flavors can be alternated with little effort, and this feature is one that many individuals greatly prefer. Some people enjoy one-cup coffee makers because it allows them to experiment with different kinds of coffee without purchasing a whole bag of coffee grounds. Also, if they do not like the flavor, a one-cup coffee maker does not create too much waste. The common perception is that people are more likely to try various kinds of coffee when they only have to try one cup at a time. In this environmentally conscious world, this thought process makes perfect sense. Also, a person is much more likely to try out different types of coffees if they can purchase variety packs of many different types to use in their one cup coffee makers.

As with many other popular products, there is an evolution in how a product is brought to the consumer. In this case, less is certainly more, and coffee-lovers everywhere are enjoying this advancement one cup at a time. About Author:

What to Look for When Choosing a One-cup Coffee Maker

Jan 18th, 2010 by admin

Single-serve coffee systems and one cup coffee makers were first introduced in the late 1990s, and have become more and more popular with each passing year. If you are considering a one cup coffee maker for your house or office, there are a number of things you should consider in making your decision. Types of Single Serve Coffee MakersThese days, a one cup coffee maker is more than a just a miniature drip coffee maker. There are many different kinds of coffee makers that only make one or two servings of coffee at a time. They include some of the oldest types of coffee makers in the world – the French press and the steam mocha pot, for instance. However, when most people refer to one-cup coffee makers today, they’re talking about automatic coffee makers. These fall into two different types of machine – a drip coffee maker that serves up one cup of coffee at a time, or the so-called single-serve coffee systems that use pods, cups or some other sort of special delivery system for coffee. The first thing to consider when deciding on a single cup coffee maker is whether you’re willing to be limited in your choice of coffee. The major brands of single serve coffee makers – Senseo, Tassimo, and Keurig – all require that you use coffee that is specially packaged for their machines. If a wide selection of coffees is important to you, or if you have a specific favorite, you’ll either want to be sure that the coffee maker you choose offers your favorite brand of coffee or choose a standard drip coffee maker that brews a single cup at a time. What to look for: One-Cup Drip Coffee MakersThere are only a few considerations if you’re choosing a one-cup drip coffee maker. An Introduction to K-cups and Keurig Coffee Products

Jan 17th, 2010 by admin

As single cup coffee brewing systems gain in popularity, the brand that has stood above the rest has been Keurig. With its K-cup coffee brewer and incredible variety of available coffees, it’s no wonder that Keurig has risen to the top. Introduced just ten years ago, the patented Keurig (pronounced kor-ig) single cup coffee system stemmed from an age-old question: why do we brew coffee a pot at a time when we drink it a cup at a time? In answering that question, the fine folks at Keurig made coffee history with one of the most versatile and innovative coffee systems on the market today. What makes Keurig so different? Unlike other single-cup brewing systems, Keurig doesn’t just package coffee in a little disc. Every individual K-cup is its own drip coffee brewer, complete with filter. You just pop the cup into place, press a button, and in a minute or less you will have one perfectly brewed cup of coffee, ready to drink. Cleanup is just as easy. Just eject the k-cup and toss it away. No dripping filters, no coffee grounds mess to deal with. While the easy cleanup and easy learning curve for the Keurig brewing process is nice, the real value of choosing Keurig over any other single-cup brewing system is the amazing variety of coffee and coffee products that are available in K-cups. From the very start, Keurig solicited the top gourmet coffee roasters from around the world and offered them a chance to be in on their revolutionary coffee concept. The hard work in the early years paid off. Today, Keurig offers nearly 200 coffee and other beverages for use with its K-cup system. K-cup varieties for the home or office Do you have a favorite brand of gourmet coffee? Chances are that you can get it in K-cups. Keurig has partnered with a diverse group of gourmet coffee roasters and name brands to offer the widest variety of coffees for any single-serve coffee system. Perhaps the best-known of the companies that package their own coffee for Keurig is Green Mountain Roasters, a socially conscious roasting company that imports the finest coffees from all over the world. Among the other specialty coffee roasters and distributors that package their coffee in K-cups for Keurig are Newman’s Own Organics, Diedrich, Emeril, Gloria Jean, Caribou, Timothy’s, Tully’s and Van Houtte. Each of them sells multiple roasts and blends through K-cups, though not necessarily every one of the blends that they make. There is quite a selection, though. Green Mountain alone offers over thirty of their specialty coffees in k-cups, including specialty signature blends like Wild Blueberry. More than just coffee Keurig does not confine you to making just coffee in you Keurig maker. They also offer a variety of teas, including Celestial Seasonings, Twinings and Bigelow teas, and gourmet chocolate drinks like Ghirardelli, Timothy’s and Green Mountain. Keurig Brewers Keurig originally made coffee makers only for businesses and large offices. In fact, most people’s first experience with K-cups was at their doctor’s or dentist’s office. For the past several years, Keurig has also made coffee brewers for the home market. There are currently three models available for the home market, ranging in price from $99 to $199. Keurig still makes their brewers for the small and large office, but they are only available through local distributors. There are Keurig brewers designed for small and large offices, and specifically for the hospitality industry. The hotel Keurig brewers are designed for single suite use, hospitality suite and coffee service use, depending on the level of use that you expect to get from your brewer. Other Coffee Accessories and Gifts from Keurig If you are not satisfied with the variety of k-cups available, Keurig also sells My K-cup for specific models of their home brewer. With My K-cup, you can make your own K-cup assembly using your own favorite gourmet coffee – or save money by buying whatever is on sale at the supermarket and making your own. Using the My k-cup is as easy as using a regular filter cup with a standard coffee maker, but you are still brewing only one cup at a time in the exclusive patented brewer, so you get all the flavor and convenience – with your own favorite coffee. Single Serve Coffee Makers – We’ve Come A Long Way Baby

Jan 16th, 2010 by admin

If you are considering a Single Serve Coffee Maker to help make your life easier then I will assure you you are making the right decision. Not only does the coffee taste great and allow you to drink different flavors for each cup but man, read this exerp below from a book I found that discribes what meathods to use for the perfect cup. Thank God for innovation! A most frequent fault in the use of the filtration method is the failure to understand the fine degree of grinding necessary to the best results. When the grind is not sufficiently fine the extraction is, of course, weak. A fine grind (like fine cornmeal) is essential. It does not retard the flow if the filter is of right dimensions. A powdered grind (like flour) is so fine that it is apt to “mat” itself into a resisting floor. Many users of the filtration method pour the liquid through more than once. This gains some added color, but adds undesirable element, depreciates flavor and is especially inadvisable when the grind is sufficiently fine. _One pouring_ only is recommended for the best results. The chinaware, or glazed earthenware pot, sometimes called theFrench drip pot, with a chinaware or earthenware sieve container for the grounds at the top through which the water is poured, being free of all metal, is inviting in purity and in hygienic merit. Together with the filter bag, it is subject to the above remarks on dimensions. A chinaware sieve cannot be made as fine as a metal sieve and cannot of course hold very fine granulation as can cotton cloth. More coffee for a given strength is, therefore, required. The upper container should be wide enough, for a given quantity of coffee, as to allow an unretarded flow, and the more openings the strainer contains the better. In any drip, filtration or percolating method the stirring of the grounds causes an over-contact of water and coffee and results in an overdrawn liquor of injured flavor. If the water does not pass through the grounds readily, the fault is as above indicated and cannot be corrected by stirring or agitation. Many complaints of bitter taste are traced to this error in the use of the filtration method. It is not necessary to pour on the water in driblets. The water may be poured slowly, but the grounds should be kept well covered. The weight of the water helps the flow downward through the grounds. Care should be taken to keep up the temperature of the water. Set the kettle back on the stove when not pouring. If the water measured, use a small heated vessel, which fill and empty quickly without allowing the water to cool. So many rules. click here to find out more about Single Serve Coffee Makers.
